Oh, yeah, sorry, that was it: “This is symbolism of something that has happened in the past (but hasn’t yet been fully shown) or foreshadowing of what is to come, or both”.
I don’t get so wrapped up in my own self that I start inventing headcanon*… I leave the heavy lifting of storytelling for the author and try not to get in the way.
But sometimes I like to point at things I find obvious, that no one else has mentioned, and say “Hey, I noticed a thing!”
* At least not until the Author Is Done, at that point anything left unsaid is free for interpretationing in my opinion.
That’s very sensible of you^^ some of these I do on purpose, some of them not. I like to make my readers work with the odd jigsaw puzzle pieces they’re given^^.
