Back when I was just a wee dexter, my dad made some beef jerky.
Old family recipe.
He spent a week searching for ingredients from farmers markets and roadside sellers, finally picking wild mustard from a field for the final item. Then he marinated it for 24 hours, put it in the oven for a day and night.
When it cooled I given a piece. I was so stoked to finally have a taste of what had to be the most anticipated foodstuff of my young life…
I’m almost certain that the wolves had an easier time gnawing on that mummy than I did chewing on that jerky.
Hey, that’s a touching tale 🙂 if I hadn’t become vegetarian since, I would have been very curious to taste it too!
Plus, with all these fine ingredients, and even with that toughness going on, I’m sure it tasted better than hairy mummies^^
He put it in big glass pickle jars and since no one wanted any, the jars got tossed in the pantry and forgotten.
I found them a few years later, tried a piece and I loved it. 3 gallon jars lasted me all summer vacation.
So much better than hairy mummies could ever hope to be.
Yeah, the answer with marinated stuff is often to let them marinate longer^^
Still, maybe a some point, in some place, marinated mummies were a thing…? That would have all manners of implications. (well, counting formol out)
